Reflections on Motherhood

A reflection on motherhood from the women of Amani Kenya... 

Mercy

(As mothers we rely on the Word of God.) The Bible helps me to remain humble. It reminds me that without God and His Word, I cannot succeed - even at motherhood. The Word of God encourages me to push forward no matter the season because being a mother is not easy. The Word is also like a spiritual food that nourishes me. I need to keep returning to it for my spiritual well being, in order to give my children a good foundation.

Today I thank my mom. She brought me to this world, taught me what is right and wrong, taught me respect and discipline. Without these virtues I would not be who I am today. She gave me a good example of a mother and that is how I have also been raising my children - to be respectful and to live in peace with people around them.

My mother showed me how to love God and the church of Jesus Christ, to respect my husband, and to be a God-fearing mother. As mothers we need to encourage one another and never lose hope no matter the circumstances you are going through. There is no dustbin for prayers, we need to continue being prayerful and the Lord will surely answer us in His own time.

The Bible helps me to take care of my children with love, it encourages me to pray and thank God. I pray to God to give me strength and wisdom in raising my children. I believe that God exists and He will help us whenever we call upon Him.

I thank my mother for giving birth to me, bringing me up, educating me and loving me every moment of my life. She brought me up showing me what is right and wrong, correcting me with a lot of love, and showing me how to be respectful to all people regardless of their status. She also trained me on the importance of fellowshipping with others in church. I love her so much.

She taught me to live in peace and love as a family.

As an orphan, having a personal relationship with God as your heavenly father is very important so that you can have a meaningful life. Knowing God (through the Bible) enables you to make good and wise decisions in life.

I appreciate that my mum was always closer to us. Giving us wisdom on how to live. She taught me to live in peace and harmony with family members and the people around you. To support each other as a family.

Faith

The Word of God gives me a purpose – to love God more above everything else. Godly motherhood is a product of fulfilling our purpose and loving God by knowing Him better. When we find identity, value, and purpose with Jesus we are sanctified and Godliness is the result.

I love that my mom gave me life and brought me up well. She took great care of me.

Motherhood is a gift from God, nurture it.
