Christmas Greetings from the Amani Family

Merry Christmas from Amani ya Juu!
.
The Amani family has had much to be thankful for this past year. There has been great growth, discovery, and renewal, even while there has also been loss, struggle, and heartache. The hope we celebrate at Christmas is needed now, as ever. Each Amani center is celebrating in its own way, be it with the distribution of Christmas chickens or a small, intimate feast.

We join together across the distance to affirm the life-giving hope of Christmas: that God dwells with us in our joy and our suffering through Christ, and that the promise of victory over the devastation of our world is real. This familiar passage from Isaiah 9 below echoes the longing for deliverance of the ancient Hebrews and the prophesied hope that God would indeed break the yoke of our burdens–not just for the Hebrews, but for all humankind. We take comfort in these truths for Amani and all the families it represents. Thank you for walking with us in your own way this year. We pray that wherever this Christmas finds you, the hope of God’s compassionate presence and redemption will bring you peace from above—amani ya juu.

- In God’s Peace, The Amani Family

"The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone. You have multiplied the nation; you have increased its joy. They rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they divide the spoil. For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian. For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore."
Isaiah 9:1-7
